He had trials at Preston and Leicester before arriving at Wrexham, where he at first settled into the reserves after some initial edgy performances. He was rewarded with a debut in the last league game of the season, at Luton, where he started inauspiciously by being involved in a collision which led to Lee Fowler being carried off. However, he then pulled off a string of acrobatic saves to put in a man of the match performance, beaten only by a late penalty in a 1-1 draw.
He went on to stand in for Maxwell well at the start of the next season, keeping a clean sheet in a win over Kidderminster as Maxwell was away with the Welsh Under-21s. However, his controversial retention of the number one spot for the next match, at Barrow, not only caused ructions but ended badly as Mayebi had an unhappy time between the sticks.
However, the next time Maxwell went on international duty Mayebi returned to the side, and this time he retained his place. Indeed, he set a club record by keeping seven consecutive clean sheets in league matches!
