A youthful left-back, Hunt capped his first season as a professional when he made his debut as a left-sided midfielder at Oxford in the penultimate match of the 2009-10 season. He got a chance to play in his favoured position the following Saturday when an early injury to Aaron Brown allowed him to come on at Hayes, and again he showed his ability going forward.

An impressive pre-season followed, convincing Dean Saunders that he could trust Hunt to understudy Neil Ashton and did not have to bother looking for another left-back. He made his home debut against York at the start of the 2009-10 season, and recovered well from a rough start, when he was troubled by Peter Till, to show his ability going forward and have a solid defensive second half.

However, that first half must have concerned Saunders, as when Ashton was injured mid-season he played Chris Blackburn or Frak Sinclair out of position at left back rather than risk Hunt.

The young full back managed only one more start, when a reserve team was chosen for the last game of the season at Luton, and also spent a month on loan at Droylsden, but despite starting off on the bench he never made it onto the pitch for the Bloods.

He remained a key part of Saunders’ planning for the future at the start of the 2011-2 season, as his pace and crossing ability makes him a dangerous proposition going forwards, and he’s a tenacious customer in his own half. However, it was the replacement of Saunders by Andy Morrell which saw his season come to life as the new boss rewarded his promising work at Colliers park and with the reserves with increased first team opportunities. Often playing in the centre of midfield, Hunt impressed with his energy and also showed that his set piece delivery was a genuine threat with a couple of assists from free kicks.
