Wrexham’s Top Scorers against Arsenal:
1:
Graham Whittle, Dixie McNeil, Mickey Thomas, Steve Watkin

Memorable Match:
Two F.A. Cup ties make up the history of this fixture, but the Golden Era team of Arfon Griffiths' unlucky quarter final defeat has to take a back seat to what happened on January 4th 1992!

No introduction to the events is necessary - Wrexham, bottom of Division Four the previous season, facing League Champions Arsenal seemed to be the most obvious mismatch, and the first half did little to challenge this notion, with Alan Smith tapping in a Paul Merson to give some substance to the arrogant domination of George Graham's side.

The second half, of course, was a different tale! After throwing everything at the Londoners, Wrexham equalised in the 83rd minute through a sensational free kick by veteran club legend Mickey Thomas (left). And, as the shell-shocked aristocrats recovered, a Gordon Davies cross was mishit by Tony Adams to Steve Watkin, who slid the winner past David Seaman. Supporting a football club doesn't get any better than that!

"It was a good job we hadn't been playing our scheduled game against Kidderminster instead, as a performance like this would undoubtedly have meant we dropped three valuable points."
