Miscellaneous: In the
1975-6 season Wrexham faced Mansfield six times at three different
venues! The league games went in the North Walians' favour, winning
at home and drawing away, but The Stags triumphed in both the F.A.
And League Cups, although they required a second replay at Villa Park
to progress in the former competition.
Until 20,754 fans packed
into The Racecourse to witness Wrexham's heartbreak on the last day
of the 1976-7 season, the biggest crowds the Racecourse and Field
Mill had attracted to this fixture came on consecutive days! On
Christmas Day 1947 17,597 fans came to see a 2-1 Wrexham win at The
Racecourse, and the following day 13,128 were at Mansfield to watch
The Stags gain revenge with a 1-0 win.
The 2008-9 FA Trophy clash
was both sides' first game in the competition.
